Hardwood Floor Hole Fix
Wood Floor Repair
The only option for repairing hardwood floors at this point is to cut out the stained floorboards and install new ones. We replaced a few boards of a standard 3/4" thick x 2 1/4" wide oak slat floor using a drill, circular saw and sharp chisel . To determine the exact width and thickness of the pieces you will need, lift a register or heat sill and measure the exposed ends of the floorboards. Repair hardwood floorsSince tongue and groove boards are locked in place, removal involves cutting out the middle of each damaged board. Follow these steps to safely make the plunge cuts you need to repair your hardwood floors:
Adjust the depth of cut to the thickness of the floorboards. Make sure the blade is clear of the ground, then pull the trigger and slowly lower the rotating blade into the board. After cutting the board to length, flip it over and use a chisel to cut the bottom lip of the grooved edge. If it is slightly lower than the surrounding slats, brace it with strips of kraft paper. Slide the new plank into place, secure it with a block of reclaimed wood, and tap it in with a hammer.
