My role involves a wide range of tasks including installing all variants of flooring/stairs, preparing subfloor, white rock as well as measuring and organizing work.

What is your favorite thing about your job? I appreciate that most days are different, and I like that the work is physical and therefore rewarding when you finish a job. If you work with people, you get along well, the work is fun, and the day goes by quickly. The best part of my day is probably once we've finished the prep work, as that usually means the hard physical work is done and I can start installing the flooring. I also have other jobs, I want to be able to free up a little more time so that I can continue to do both, but also have time for myself and my family. It will be difficult at times, but if it's something you commit to, it can be a really good job, not just financially. But you see a lot of new places, no two days are alike, you very rarely look at the clock and it's a career that could take you in so many directions. I work for A G Flooring Ltd, a well established flooring contractor based in the Greater Manchester area. My chosen career was professional taekwondo, I competed internationally for 10 years and my goal was to become an Olympic champion, but that's not how my career turned out and I retired at 25 years by starting an apprenticeship in laying floors. I think the fact that it's still an active job and that every day you have clear goals to achieve made the change quite easy. Often we have more than one worksheet at a time, which means I would work on multiple tasks to be more efficient. I left school and went straight to the national taekwondo academy for 10 years so I had no experience of a normal working day so it was a shock at first but I think the skills I learned as an athlete transferred over and really helped me with sol. In my flooring career so far, I'm proudest to have won the Contract Flooring Association - Flooring Apprentice of the year award in 2018. I see myself taking on a bigger role in A.G Flooring, that's a family business, so the goal one day will be to run the business with my father.
